USS Midway History

We lived the dream . . . USS Midway Veterans Association

Simply put, we are part of a very good thing: a shipwide organization of United States Navy and Marine Corps Veterans who served aboard the USS Midway (CV-41) at some point during her operational history, from her commissioning in 1945 to her decommissioning in 1993.  As Midway Veterans we have been acknowledged by the Midway Aircraft Carrier Museum in San Diego as an organization where former officers and crew can gather, share their stories, and help support their legacy through the Midway Museum.

What a ship she was—and still is!  Midway proved herself as perhaps the most heroic, mightiest, and longest-enduring U.S. Naval warship of the twentieth century, and today that spirit, embodied by the concept of “Midway Magic,” is alive and well, as witnessed by Midway’s new mission in the twenty-first century.  In under a decade, she has become the most popular floating museum in the world.  And as Midway Veterans, we serve our ship now as we served her then—proudly.

In 2012, thanks to the donations we have made to the Museum’s education programs, for the first time the USS Midway Veteran’s Association’s name is on the Museum’s Donor Wall, and we aim to keep it there for years to come, just as we plan to continue to work hard to find and reconnect Midway Veterans—ship’s company and air groups alike—to join our organization.

If you're one of the estimated 200,000 Midway Veterans who served on Midway and would like to join ranks with many of your shipmates and friends, you can find our application and sign-up information on this website (follow membership link on left), our Facebook page, or our “quarterdeck cards” at the Veteran’s sign-in log on the USS Midway Museum’s gangway.

The Midway Veterans Association welcomes you, Shipmates.  Join us and share in the pride, fellowship, and camaraderie that we and our families enjoy!
